Featuring Nirajan Raja

What are you currently doing (job/study)? Your interests?

A working professional, I work for Data Software Research Company (DSRC) as a Senior Test Engineer.

When & How did you get started CTC?

In the year 2015-April month, I attended a CTC event on Organic farming at Arakkonam, opening the doors of CTC in my life. I can remember that event organized by Vinoth Shanker. Agriculture has always been my area of interest and passion. The satisfaction and the learning I got from the event was immeasurable that I eventually signed up with CTC.

What are the activities of CTC that you are involved in?

  Endurance Sport:
Marathon & Hill running, Triathlon, open water and see swimming. Trekking & Camping and Cycling.

  Volunteering:
Plantation drives, cleanups including zero waste management, blood donation,
Event volunteering in Marathon and triathlon, 2015 floods – partially helped rescue and part of relief material packing team.

What will you say has been your biggest achievement when it comes along with CTC?

My longest hill run, 80K @ The Malnad Ultramarathon, Qualifier Race for UTMB. One of the most refreshing and unforgettable trail with elevations 1400m'

Anything else you might want to add?

Accomplishing a Half Iron distance finish, in the triathlon held by our very own CTC

Share any one of the CTC Best moments you had!

Sea swimming J When I was invited by Peter, I presumed that a boat will take us to a certain distance and from thereon we could swim. However reaching the shore, we were asked to jump in which indeed came as a shock. However with Peter’s tips on how to face the waves for first 20 meters, I was able to make the swim.

How do you manage your work life balance?

Focus totally on what is in your hand interms of work and finish the deliverable on time which would free-up the mornings and the weekend. I also try to practice the following, that Peter says:

Morning 2-3 hours of fitness/social activity, 8 hours work daily – 40 hrs/week, Evenings post work – to spend quality time with family/friends and accommodate 7 hours sleep. 48 hrs/ weekend outdoor activity.

Any specific goals/dream that you are working on ?

To participate and finish one International Triathlon and explore as many trails as I can when it comes to hill running.

How has your life changed after joining this CTC ?

The first thing anyone would notice after joining in CTC, is the increase in the number of friends in FB., however what makes them special is the like-mindedness and  the amount of exposure you get through them. Fitness is a definite mention. The pleasure of seeing you expand both physically and mentally cannot be expressed in words. Few other important qualities such as time management, prioritizing tasks, helping tendency, empathy and focus

Share some of your cycling that you did in the CTC?

2 days Nageri hill cycling and cycling during triathlon are my most memorable cycling in CTC. Recently I did a 167 Km heritage cycling, with cycling yogis. My mornings are mostly set for cycling and volunteering

We have seen you in leading many of volunteering and how does this helps you outside CTC?

Every volunteering drive in CTC is an experience. It definitely is a value-add to me in many ways that it helps me to contribute to the society. One such effort is “Nizhalgal Servicing Society”
Started and co-funded by my college friend’s with guidance of our Professor, currently employed in India and abroad. Predominantly started to mobilize funds for education of under privileged children, from school until they finish college. We also give career guidance for classes 10th & 12th. Two of them have benefitted out of this and have successfully finished college and are employed.

Additionally we organize blood donation drives.

What are you other interest?

Automobile, sustainable and Natural form of agriculture and environmental awareness.

I want to thank entire CTC team especially Methiyam cleanup team and Aithinai Tree growing team.
