It has been another busy week in our rehab department. CTC volunteers were engaged in scouting impact & restoring livelihood in Pulicat, cleaning rivers, planning a model slum, restoring schools, supporting less privileged homes, saving lives through blood donation and distributing Pongal kits with focus on the most needy/poor. Ainthinai - CTC's Adyar River Bank Clean Up | Phase 9-Kotturpuram, Jan 13
Last week Wednesday, 50 volunteers joined the 9th phase of our Adyar river cleanup nearby Suryanagar in Kottupuram. So far we have restored around 500 meters out of a total of 1.5 km river bank. Below before-after photos show the difference our continuous efforts have made. After the bank is completely clean we are planning to plant trees along the river.

CTC Pulicat Village Adoption Plan - Phase 1 - Restoring livelihood
As part of our ongoing rehabilitation efforts CTC has scouted several remote hamlets near Pulicat which were impacted by the recent floods. We identified 4 villages with 170 poor families (scheduled caste) staying in huts which are flood affected and struggling with their livelihood. Through various visits of our CTC coordinators and local coordinator Ashok we identified the most stringent livelihood needs over here - fishing nets, school, water tank amounting to 20 lakhs. SEERS Home Rehabilitation
The Social Economic Educational Rehab Society (Seers), was founded in 1994 to provide shelter for kids who were used as child labors. Later in 2008 due to increased sexual harassment against girl kids, they have converted it as Protective shelter for girl kids who were homeless or not in safe place (such as prostitute home or parents having affair). Currently E.Kaliyana Sundharam is running this home with his wife along with few staffs, they have 33 girl kids irrespective of age 4 years to 13 years. Their home heavily affected due to recent Chennai flood.
Our sincere thanks to the donors who supported the needs of the SEERS home! Saturday CTC delivered 2 fridges, 2 washing machines, 1 motor pump, 1 Sintex tank 1000 ltrs, new pipes and fittings for installation which got destroyed in the recent floods. We are taking care of few other maintenance works in home with some money left over after these expenses.
Restoration AIWC School, Chintadripet - Jan 16
Around 15 volunteers joined the cleanup, whitewash and painting of the AIWC School at Chintadripet last Saturday.

Distribution of Pongal Kits to Tamil repatriates, Jan 14
Last weekend CTC distributed Pongal kits to 176 families of Tamil repatriates from Srilanka (one of the most ignored communities in TN) living in slum areas on the banks of the Adyar and Coovum rivers and various other low rent areas affordable to these daily wage workers.
CRK : Blood Donation Camp with NSS Unit-10 of CEG - 19 Jan
We take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended CTC's Chennai Red Knights blood donation camp at Anna University college yesterday allotting timing in your regular busy schedule and making our donation drive a great success.
Overall we collected 122 units from college students and CTC donors which will be used to save 366 lives. A special Thanks to Karthikeyan, Rajeshwari and NSS unit 10 Students volunteers.
