And to prove this quote, 57 (57*3=171 lives we can save) donors turned up on 21-Nov to donate 350 ml of their blood for small children in Egmore Child hospital, braving the heavy rains in various parts of Chennai. With heavy rains and rise in diseases, the blood camp was indeed the need of the hour for the most underprivileged and poor children, who undergo treatment in this hospital.
In a first step to involve corporate(s) in the awareness campaign for Blood donations, IBM joined hands with Chennai Red Knights this time. The CTC/IBM group was a mix of excited people with some resuming back blood donations after a long time (after college days) and some dejected and determined faces, who owed to improve their health after being turned back for lack of sufficient hemoglobin.
It was heartwarming to see the hospital staff, who despite spending extra time on blood bank on most days, waited patiently for donors beyond the camp timings on Saturday (as some had been stranded in traffic following rains) and were sharing the plight of children in the hospital and the experience of working with volunteer groups, arranging blood for them. Thanks to all the donors and volunteers and for supporting this cause.
