CTC's Ongoing City Cleanup & Rehab Efforts - Update

It was a busy week again restoring rivers, schools and beaches in the city severely affected by recent floods. Find below a summary update and photo links -

Adyar River Restoration - Dec

A team of 30 volunteers participated in the 5th city cleanup drive by CTC and Chennai Runners last Tuesday morning restoring the garbage ridden banks of the Adyar river near Kotturpuram. We plan to continue regular cleanup drives to restore the city's majestic river and the transform the nearby Suryanagar slum into a model hamlet. Next phase is planned tomorrow. Join us

Rehabilitation Pozhichalur Gov Primary School - Dec 25th

100+ volunteers from the Chennai Trekking Club kick started the rehabilitation of the flood affected government primary school of Pozhichalur:
Phase 1 completed. Two tractors of garbage removed from campus. Water leakage from roof fixed. School bags and notebooks handed over to headmaster to distribute to students. Cleaned and washed the class rooms and kitchen. Removed weeds around the school building. 20 relief kits distributed to workers of the school. Dhanwantari Medical Trust organized a medical camp in which 200 families and kids participated.Thanks to 8 doctors who came down from Mumbai and CTC volunteers to coordinate the camp.
Phase 2 of rehab including painting the walls and rebuilding the compound wall will be started soon.

Rehabilitation of Thoraipakkam Gov Hr Sec. School - Dec 26th

40 volunteers from Chennai Trekking Club and TN Floods - Education Supplies (TNFES) cleaned up the flood affected Govt Higher Secondary School in Thuraipakkam today morning. In Stage 1 effort we cleaned up the garbage including plastic bottles, styrofoam cups, polythene papers, thermocole and waste papers. We also cleaned up the roof tops of the class rooms removing plant weeds and garbage accumulated.
In Stage 2, we plan to construct the waste water outlet,laying cement floor & constructing garbage collection units around the school.

Chennai Beach Cleanup - Dec 27th


Thank you Chennai for turning up in huge numbers on a Sunday morning to cleanup a part of our Chennai Shores. The Ridleys which are gonna turn up on our shores in few days time will be grateful to the selfless efforts of you guys :) 

Together we collected about 6 lorries of garbage from Broken Bridge zone, weighing an approx of 6 tonnes. Most of it was the thermocol's that is used in safe packing and other single use plastics. Also we have collected about 45 sacks full of glass bottles, which was sent to Earth Recyler for recycling.

Distribution of school kits at Vanjivakkam Medur High School - Dec 27th

School kits were given to 112 poor students yesterday @ Vanjivakkam Medur High School.
