CTC News - Beach Conservation

Beaches are always the 1st choice for many when they decide to chill out with their friends, but for those of us at CTC beaches are our favourite target spots to clean.

In the first 3 months of 2017, we had a total of 6 beach clean-ups with about 600+ green warriors averaging hundred & more contributing their mite for each clean-up ( five phases in Besant Nagar Elliot’s  beach & one in foreshore beach ).

Usually beach clean-ups happen with one major motive, to spread awareness to people about improper disposal of waste but this time adding to that, This being turtle season, clean-ups were done to welcome the mother turtles to lay their nests & provide a beautiful home to the hatchlings.

The coolest facet of these clean-ups were that many of our cheerful volunteers joined with their kids in tow. It was pretty amazing to see the young eco warriors working enthusiastically to make the shores clean, pristine & alluring. There were even occasions when we had to extend the clean-up by half an hour just because some tourists who visited the beach decided to chip in.

Some of our top organizers include our own Peter, Ahamed and Hema who managed the clean-ups despite their busy work schedules.

During the coming quarters, we will be gearing up for our Annual Chennai Coastal Clean-up (8th Edition). We assure you that it won’t be just a clean-up merely a day but a colossal effort to convert the fishermen’s hamlets into a zero kuppai(garbage) zones.

Only all of us, can change our tomorrow. UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Come join in our endeavor to keep the beaches in a primal state because at the end of the day, it’s our favourite hangout spot 
