CTC - Ainthinai Green Day - 4 Sep 2016
Chennai Trekking Club along with our Green Team Ainthinai is proud to announce yet another signature event of the year Green Day 2016 - a special annual event dedicated to Mother Earth to celebrate the cause of Environment and Sustainable living. This event will be our big step forward to create awareness by planting trees on a larger scale and to understand the necessity to have a Greener Ecosystem.
Over the past 4 years many of you volunteered selflessly in our ongoing green events to plant an amazing 7000+ saplings in and around Chennai with a significant survival rate of 70%. We can all be proud of this amazing accomplishment which is a small effort to make our city a greener and better place to live in. In the past years our team has initiated numerous green initiatives including major cleanups, lake restoration, setting up nurseries, fabrication of tree guards, corporate green drives, segregation & recycling efforts, green workshops, rooftop gardening, source segregation initiatives, collaboration with farmers, kids tree walks, etc. Most of this was done seamlessly owing to the fruitful collaboration that we have with TN forest department.
In November 2014 which was CTC's first Green Day we planted around 900+ saplings in Thenneri village near Kanchipuram. This was followed up by various maintenance events over the past 2 years with the help of our regular volunteers.
Last year for the second edition of Green Day we chose a reserve forest area near Padappai and planted around 1500+ saplings along with Forest Department. This was followed up several maintenance drives over the past year with the help of our CTC volunteers who have spent their several weekends here especially during summer bathing in the scorching heat. Results have shown here with about 90% of the saplings survived.
This year for our 3rd Annual Green Day, on Sunday September 4th, we are planning to plant around 1000+ saplings in a place in Chennai outskirts with the main theme of afforestation. We need help of minimum 300 volunteers to make this event a grand success.
It's gonna be fun.
It's gonna be green.
And as usual it's gonna be another wonderful CTC style volunteering event ;)

Where : Somewhere in Chennai outskirts [Stay tuned for updates on location ;) ]
Agenda :
- Assemble at a pick-up point of your choice (on time).
- Group together and reach the plantation spot before 06:00 am.
- Planting 1000+ saplings ( or as much as we can plant, planting them proper is more important than the count we plant :) ).
- Do some mulching and watering to the saplings that we planted.
- Pose for a group pic :p or click a selfie.
- Leave from the spot before 12:00 noon with satisfied heart.
Must Carry :
1) Comfortable Clothing, Shoes/Sandals.
2) Reusable, Filled Water Bottles.
3) Cap, Sun Screen - if required.
4) Camera - if you have ;)
Member Guidelines :
- CTC is a non-profit group and accounts will be shared transparently with all participants.
- Participants who engage in irresponsible, disrespectful or unsafe behavior will be blacklisted from future CTC events.
- Feedback or complaint from any CTC member on the group, event, organizer, safety or accounts can be raised to the core@chennaitrekkers.org .
