India Clean Sweep II - Coastal Cleanup @ Pondicherry

PONDICHERRY COASTAL CLEANUP, JUNE 7, 2015

In Pondicherry the programme was organized in June 2014 under ‘India Clean Sweep’ campaign by the CTC members & volunteers at Pondicherry. To educate and sensitize the public on the non-use of plastics various stage shows was successfully conducted by team of volunteer’s in Pondicherry beach road. From June 3rd to 7thopen projection was organized near Pondicherry Tourism department for public to create consciousness. Radio broadcast were also organized by BIG FM, 92.7 for that whole week to reach wider audience in Pondicherry region. Talks were delivered by CTC members and experts from the relevant field.
For that occasion, on 7th June, an awareness stage show was organized from 6.00 to 9.00pm at rock beach opposite to Gandhi statue. The show includes drama by children from Arutchelvi Aye Ammal government school,dance show by ADC dance team and projections by Pondicherry University scholars.
The main cleanup event was conducted on 8th June 2014 from 6.00 to 10.30.  Our Honorable Tourism & Welfare Minister, Shri.  Rajavelu, Puducherry was invited as chief guest for inaugurating the event. Around300 volunteers were participated in the event from schools, corporate, NGOs, Pondicherry University and individual volunteers. Overall the program was highly successful even though it was organized for first time in Pondicherry.



Our CTC team volunteers joined hand with volunteers from various Educational institutions & corporate in Pondicherry will be participating in the Pondicherry Coastal Cleanup activity.  As an initiative the awareness program is being organized to reach the young minds about the usage of plastics in our daily life and its impact towards the environment. 

Activity Plans:

Campaign come Awareness program
It is the sole purpose of this whole CTC - Coastal Cleanup, so we have gone to schools and colleges for creating awareness to the younger generation about the use of plastics in day to day life and how they are affecting the environment. Till now two school such as Suseela Bai govt girls School and JNU School and three colleges (Community College, Idhaya College of arts & Science and Achariya arts and Science college) we have presented our campaign work and got nice response from the young minds. Tomorrow June 2nd 2015 also we have one awareness program in Study school Lecole Internationale at 2.30 pm. Still our campaign work will continue after the event also because some of the school they requested to present our awareness program. 



Radio Broadcasting

BIG FM has joined hands with us in spreading awareness about environmental conservation and keeping our Pondicherry beaches clean. BIG FM is the official radio partner of Pondicherry Coastal Cleanup. From 29th of May they have started to broad cast the promotional audio in between the every show. And also they planned to broad cast various experts message regarding the awareness for the non-usage of plastics and its harmfulness in the environment and coastal will delivered in the program called manasa thotta melady from 3rd June 2015 onwards. Finally, they are agreed for the live broad cast about the Pondicherry coastal cleanup Sunday event at June 7th

Cycle Rally

A team of 20 volunteers planned to participate in cycle rally to spreading the awareness regarding the Pondicherry coastal conservation and cleaning on Saturday 6th June 2015 at Pondicherry Beach road to white town city. 



Flash Mob

Teams of ADC dance school are participating for the Flash Mob held on beach road at June 6th night, to attract the public in order to address our coastal cleanup program and conservation. 



Mime Show

Our volunteers are spending their weekends practicing dance steps to use public performances as a medium to educate our fellow citizens on the harmful impact of plastics and garbage on our environment and our own health. Our members started rehearsing dance steps lead by professional choreographers through MIME show. 



Video screening

Our CTC volunteers actively engaged in video screening every week end on Pondicherry beach road and presenting the video screening to educate and sensitize the public regarding the plastic usage and its harmfulness. 




Cultural Program

We organized the cultural program by Arutchelvi Aye Ammal government school last year. The same we planned to organize the cultural and dance program this year (June 6th night) to create a center of attention among the public regarding our CTC Pondicherry coastal cleanup event and awareness program. 




Video contest

Our CTC volunteers are planned make a video contest in order to make the people awareness regarding the plastic conservation and its harmful effects for human,  animals and environment also be considered to educate and realize them to stop plastic consumption. The best 30 seconds video will be selected and distribute the prize to encourage them to aware the plastic adverse effect in the environment.

Target beach zones

We planned only four beach zones which cover
1. Rock Beach (Dupleix Statue – Gandhi Statue)
2. Rock Beach (Gandhi Statue – Chief Secretariat)
3. Auro beach (Serenity beach – Auro Beach) and
4. Kalapet Beach (Pondicherry University – Kalapet)
Around 70 individual volunteers and 367 education and corporate volunteers were registered till now and expected 200 more volunteers to be registered soon for coastal cleanup.

Main Focus

Saying “Cleaning one day will not clean our city and will not reduce the plastics until the change has to come to individual then only we can change the world as plastic free”. Hence, we are mainly focusing to create the awareness program to educate and sensitized among younger minds and public. We are working on it and will continue further.
