Chennai Coastal Cleanup, June 16th - participants prep email

Prep email and Summary update for all participating individuals and groups this Sunday.

We sincerely thank all participants in joining our cleanup drive and helping us to send a strong message of environmental conservation to the community.

A. Individual volunteers

1500 individual volunteers will be joining through 12 assembly points across the city. 


We request all to assembly at their respective points SHARP on time in order not to delay the cleanup.

Adyar - Rainforest - 5:30am Ashok Pillar - Udayam Theatre - 5am Egmore - Railway station - 5:15am Guindy circle - Mount Road opposite railway station - 5:15am Kottivakam - Bharat Petroleum bunk - 5:30am Koyambedu - petrol bunk opposite CMBT - 5am Marina lighthouse - lighthouse - 6am Tirunmangalam signal - Anna Nagar West bus depot - 5am Tirunvanmyur - Adyar Bakery - 5:30am Velachery - opposite Vijayanagar bus stop - 5:15am Besant Nagar - Eliot beach - 5:50am Tambaram - Bus Stand - 5am


A coordinator for each assembly point has been assigned and should have send a prep email to you with contact details and further instructions.
After assembly all volunteers at each point will travel together (sharing cars/bikes) to your assigned beach zones (see below)

B. Groups

At this moment 90 Companies, NGOs, Schools totaling 5000+ volunteers have joined the cleanup drive.
These groups will report directly to their assigned beach zone (with a few exceptions).
A beach zone coordinator has been assigned to you to should have contacted you with further details.


Corporates are requested to arrange their own garbage bags, gloves, refreshments and snacks for their employees (except for a few who requested us to buy for them)

CTC (Sponsors) will be providing garbage bags, gloves, caps, refreshments and breakfast for all individual participants, NGOs and schools.

C. Beach zones

Operation Chennai Coastal Cleanup will start 6am sharp at all 16 beach zones from Marina till Kovalam.

The 12 assembly points and 90 groups totaling 6500+ volunteers have been distributed across 16 beach zones according to the garbage spread.

D. Segregation

Volunteers will be split up in 4 groups to collect 4 different types of materials. 



Hard plastics, glass bottles and soft plastics will be picked up by our segregation partner Kuppathotti and recycled to minimize the garbage that moves to the dump yard


Garbage will be collected using bio-degradable garbage bags from BioTek, our bag partner since the previous 3 Coastal Cleanup Drives


Our safety partner ALERT! will be present at all beach zones in case any medical assistance is required

Temple Adventures & AASAI, Chennai Dive Club and Coastal Security Group, Tamilnadu Police will organize an underwater debris collection at Eliot Beach

  

E. Event Partner

The Hindu is our event partner this year who has helped us to reach out to major sponsors and run an ad campaign in their news paper to spread awareness to the general public



F. Inauguration

6am at Eliot Beach the Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy and Vikram Kapur, Principal Secretary & Commissioner Chennai Corporation will be inaugurating the Coastal Cleanup

 

G. Organizers

This 4th year edition of Chennai Coastal Cleanup would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and passion of our150 member organizing team from the Chennai Trekking Club
