Chennai Enticer, Sprint, Olympic, Half & 3/4 Iron Triathlon, July 13-14

[Wikipedia] A triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance events.[1] While many variations of the sport exist, triathlon, in its most popular form, involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed "transitions" between the individual swim, bike, and run components.[1] The word "triathlon" is of Greek origin from τρεις or trei (three) and αθλος or athlos (contest).[2]
[Levels] CTC will be organizing a 5-level Triathlon on the weekend of July 12-14 including Enticer, Sprint, Olympic, Half & 3.4 Iron distance levels * Enticer: 300m swim, 20K cycle, 2K run (average time: 1 hour 50 min) * Sprint: 750m swim, 20K cycle, 5K run (avg time: 2.3 hours) * Olympic: 1.5K swim, 40K cycle, 10K run (avg time: 5 hours) * Half Iron: 1.9K swim, 90K cycle, 21.1K run (avg time: 8.5 hours) * 3/4 Iron: 3K swim, 135K cycle, 31.5K run (avg time: 11 hours)
[I CANNOT]
Let's address these common concerns/excuses:
* I can NOT I don't see myself as a Triathlete/I lack confidence/I am scared to participate and fail/etc. Unless we give it a try we'll never know, do we? Simply join one/some for our regular swim, cycle, run practice sessions in the next 3 months before the Triathlon to get a feel and assess yourself I personally guarantee that everyone can easily complete an Enticer at least, or event Sprint
* I am too young The youngest participant in last Triathlon was 6 years. Around 10 kids participated in the last one between 6-15 years. * I am too old Sivakumar, 54 years young completed the Olympic Triathlon in March. * All Triathletes are men Last Triathlon 15 girls/women participated in Enticer/Sprinc/Olympic categories * I can't swim Askash, winner of the last Half Iron Triathlon learned swimming 20 days before the Triathlon. CTC conducts regular swimming camps * I don't own a cycle/did not cycle since school You can rent a cycle for 200Rs - contact Vishwanathan: 9940457777 or Just Buy Cycles (various branches, check Google) * I never ran before Not used to running? No problemo - start with a brisk walk, jog, periodically walk/jog/run for a short distance (1-3km) for a few days

[Preparation] The only right way to participate in a Triathlon is to prepare well: * Inform yourself on do's and dont's * Practice running, swimming, cycling regularly (advanced levels) or at least a few times (basic levels) * Share experiences with fellow members and experienced Triathletes All above are happening in our 300+ member FB Triathlon community - http://www.facebook.com/groups/281087932019841/ Professional guidance & practice provided by: Physio.T.P.Vallaban,MPT (ortho) Director - Phoenix Academy of SPorts and orthopaedics,Chennai
[Experience/assess] We'll be doing 8 (bi-)weekly Enticer/Sprint prep Triathlons (non-competitive, as one group) during a weekday morning in the next 3 months before our actual Triathlon to give the opportunity for anyone to experience, get a feel, practice and assess yourself for the upcoming Triathlon.

[Venue] Swimming will be at the Aquatic Complex pool at Velachery at 6am sharp. After completing the swim the participants will proceed cycling along OMR/ECR After completing the cycling they will be running the above distance between coast/ECR
The event is open to anyone with a good basic fitness level and who wants to get a taste of this multi-discipline sports event. The focus will be on PARTICIPATING and COMPLETION rather then winning. All those completing this challenge will be specially recognized in our 19.000 member group.
