Trek Polamaa IV - March 9 &10, registration

The Chennai Trekking Club brings you the 4th edition of "Trek Polamaa", a Symposium on Outdoors, Adventure, Nature, Wildlife, Environment, Photography and Conservation on the occasion of its 5th birthday. For the 4th consecutive year we bring you renowned guest speakers from across South India to talk about their passions and life on the above areas:

Speakers ======= Arivazhagan - Wildlife Biologist and PHD from IISC center for Ecology. Has worked on the Asian Elephant in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Nagarahole National Park and Periyar Tiger Reserve for his doctoral dissertation, gained extensive experience on human-elephant conflicts. Published 11 scientific papers in national and international journal and one book. S Chandrasekaran - Masters in the Environmental Sciences, published several books and papers and contributed to seminars and bird surveys in Gulf of Mannar, Coimbatore & Satyamangalam Forest Divisions. Member of Bombay Natural History Society; Madras Naturalists’ Society; Satyamangalam Environment and Wildlife Association.

Arun Krishnamurthy - Founder of Environmentalist Foundation of India (http://www.indiaenvironment.org) an environmental conservation group focusing on wildlife conservation and habit restoration spread across 9 cities in India. EFI has received many awards for its work.

Shakthi Sritharan - Research Assistant at Gharial Conservation Alliance (GCA), a project of Madras Crocodile Bank Trust (MCBT). She is responsible for all GIS related work there. Before this she worked as the Curatorial and Research Officer at MCBT. Graduated from the UK with a Master’s in Environmental Assessment and Management. Kedar - Avid trekker and Mountaineer in the Appalachians, Cascade Mountains, Smokey Mountains, Rocky Mountains, Nilgirs, Himalayas and the Sahyadris. Associated with Shri Shivdurg Samvardhan, a NGO based out of Pune with a focus on Fort Conservation. Dipankar - Self-made Ironman completing 3.9km swimming, 180km cycling and a full marathon (42km) running in France, cycled the Himalayas, Nilgiris and Swiss Alps and enthusiastic explorer in the Chennai Trekking Club.


Gaurav J. - An accomplished outdoor professional who's goal is to become an excellent climber and free runner. Gaurav has a Basic Mountaineering Course qualification from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, International marathon runner, 8 year of experience in rock climbing, mountain biking enthusiast, outdoor instructor & experiential educator. Vallaban - Director Phoenix Academy of Sports & Orthopedics. Junior boxing state level championship. Resident physio Chennai Trekking Club and other Chennai sports groups. Motto: Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Sandhiya Rajaraman - In 2012, a bunch of social-minded CTC organizers supported a queer cause to “Grow our own Oxygen”. Against all odds, through scorching heat and cyclonic weather, this little group diligently went about planting 1000+ saplings in neighborhoods and colleges across Chennai.

Vikas - Mountaineer for the past 10 years, visited more than 280 forts in Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa. Lead more than 150 different grade Treks. Explored many biking routes into the Interiors of Sahyadris and the Hiamalyas. Strong supporter of NGO’s like Safe Climbing Initiative and Fort Conservation activities.
Sujan Bernard - wildlife enthusiast and ex-education officer at Crocodile bank. Sujan has organized several snake walks and workshops in CTC. Manick - Director at Velammal Medical Hospital & Research Institute. He has served several thousand volunteer hours along with the best in the US healthcare industry as the Co-Chairman of the Admin and Finance Domain Committee of the Healthcare IT Standards Panel. He was later tapped to be the Co-Chairman of the Interoperability Tiger Team set up to advice the Obama Administration on Meaningful Use stimulus guidelines.

Sara - freelances as a wildlife and documentary cameraman, shooting documentaries for channels like National Geographic and the BBC. All my photography and cinematography is self -taught. In many ways, self-learning is a long and tedious process but by teaching oneself, one learns to carefully sieve out the incredible amount of information and retain the core Thilak - Everyone knows the driving force behind CTC's Social Initiatives. He has changed the lives of hundreds of less privileged children in tens of orphanages across Chennai through social treks, visits and collection drives. Founder of Sevai Karangal (http://sevaikarangal.webs.com/) an initiative to channel funds to needy orphanages and old age homes. Any left over balance will go to the family of Jais, one of our members who deceased last year.
