First Week Update on Chennai Coastal Cleanup 3 - Feb 5
This past week CTC rocked with our registrations increasing by the hour, several emails from corporates and companies expressing interest and willingness to join, student and youth groups writing to us. Can our members show we not only trek the most difficult terrains and climb most dangerous peaks, but we can also rock the peak of Giving and Civic-responsibility? Come on, Chennaiites—time for Clean and Beautiful Chennai—one beach at a time!

Updates so far:
Registrations: We have close to 300 registrations within one week of announcement. With still 3 weeks to go, we are expecting individual registrations to easily reach in the 600-800 range complemented with at least the same number from external non-profit groups, companies & students.
Support from Companies/Corporates: The list is growing by the day: CTS, NOKIA, HCL, Infosys, Wipro, KLA-Tencor SW India, Hexaware, Universal Print Systems, iNautix Technologies, VSL, Momentive have contacted us and expressed interest to participate in our cleanup campaign. Cognizant will be promoting our event in all their Chennai locations and emailing all employees end of Jan to participate in our event. NOKIA is participating with 200 of its employees! Do you know of a company/corporate/business that could support this initiative? If so do so today! Find attached our event poster, event summary form which can be forwarded to your CSR/HR teams.
Sponsorship: we need to buy around 1000 bio-degradable garbage bags and 500 reusable latex gloves for all volunteers. We are also planning to print posters and banners to spread awareness of the event across the city beforehand. As of now a few individual sponsors stepped forward but we only covered 25% of our total expense. You can help in many ways—as an individual or by contacting a sponsor. Find attached the event poster, event summary and sponsorship form which can be forwarded
Current sponsors - Satish Swaminathan NGO "Etena Trust', Babu Dilleeswara, Asha, Sudhagar, Siva Doiraswamy and a few anonymous sponsors
School & College Participation: Anna University (NSS, 50 volunteers), D.G.Vaishnava college (40 volunteers) and 4 orphanage homes (100 kids) have confirmed their participation. Do you know of other schools or colleges who could join in? Can you contact them?
Non-profit Groups: Several non-profit groups are spreading the message on their network to participate in our coastal cleanup. AIESEC, AID India, Rotary, Youth Red Cross, Green Peace, Inner Wheel Club. You know any other organizations who would be interested to participate?
Media: A pre-event curtain raiser article/tv features are being planned. NDTV Hindu already contacted and have shown interest. If you have radio contacts or contacts in area newspapers like Besant Nagar Times or Adayar Times or talk magazines like Nungambakkam talk magazine who may be willing to do a pre-event write up, please do let us know. Further, if anybody can get a radio/media group to tie-up with CTC for the event (i.e. complete sponsorship) then it would be fantastic!
Publicity:
Posters: Our graphics design team has produced some excellent posters (find them attached). CTC received sponsorship for 100 A4/A3 posters and 10 4x6 ft banners. CTS and InfoSys have already requested posters to be put up on their public notice boards. Banners will be displayed at key public places like beaches. Police permission is being sought for the same. If anybody wants these posters to display on college, company, or group boards, please contact us.
Facebook: We have an event page and pic badge. Spread the word in three simple steps:
1. Here is the FB Page - Like It
2. FB event - Join, invite your friends
2. Pic Badge - Wear it, invite your friends
Garbage: Did you know how long it takes for your garbage to bio-degrade?
